Ladys handle polk and hendersonville

Mountain went on the road and completed the season sweep on wolverines and bearcats. Cougars walk in Tuesdays game @Hendersonville 67-23. Samm Chandler was a force with 14pts and 14 rebounds in the first half to blow hendersonville out early. Cougars took that momentum to polk later in the week Jumping on the wolverines early . Cougars never trailed in either ball game Destiny Elkins was unstoppable with 21 Pt's. Cougars led by as many as 12 and go on to win 66-59.

boys blow out madison 64-38

Boys handle Madison from the start to finish jumping out to an 8-0 lead.

Austin BOB Taylor was BIG inside, with 14pt's 5 rebounds 1 block. Brandon Brown had the hot hand with 12pts 5 assists.  

Cougars put up 33 points to Madison's 12 at the half. Grant Buckner also had 5 assists . Team had 12 assists. Cougars shot 19-33 58% which accounted for only 22 rebounds as a team. Cougars D had13 steals 3 blocks. Cougars walk in 64-38 blow out.

Lady cougars get back on track taking down Madison 65-52

After the girls lost they're first game of the season, They faced a tough patriots squad. Madison was cold in the first period as the cougars took a 5 point lead after the 1st . Samm Chandler led team inside with 15 Pt's ,4 steals 3 blocks. 

Samm's 7 rebounds was second on the team just behind Destiny Elkins with 8 rebounds. Cougars only grabbed 11 offensive rebounds as a team. Cougars took a 4 point lead at half. Madison came out as a different team in the 2nd outscoring the Cougars 15-8 . Tess Harris led Madison with 12pts for the Pats. In the fourth Cougars held together Abbey Bailey hit a jumper giving the cougars the lead for good 48-46. Story of the night 3's . Ladys hit 10, accounting nearly half they final score. Nyssa freeman hit 5 out of 8 from outside.Scoring 22 Pt's also having 6 assists . Cougar assault was fierce outscoring  Madison by 15 in the 4th. Cougars cruise late winning 65-52.

ladys fall from the the unbeaten 50-54 to avery . But thats not the worst

Lady Cougars faced theyre toughest foe from last year. The Avery Lady Vikings came in looking to knock off the number one team . Cougars shot poor only 3-21 from the floor from 3. 19 turnovers as Cougars pressed the ball taking bad shots. Destiny Elkins had 15 rebounds to lead the team Cougars had 40 rebounds with plenty of 2nd chance points . 

But the Lady's where cold. Avery took the lead in the 2nd 29-26 and never gave it back. Nyssa freeman had 2 3's to pull the cougars close in the fourth Freeman had 16pts 2 rebounds 5 steals. Cougars had 13steals as a team . But Leader and and starter Brianna Woody hit 3 shots in a row in the 4th getting 15 Pt's 5 rebounds 1 block. On her final shot she came down awkward on her leg falling to the court in pain, Brianna's early indications is a tore acl. The loss of Brianna and only a 50% healthy  Samm Chandler was to much to bare . As the Cougars lose they're first game of the year. 50-54

BOYS KEEP WINNING STREAK VS AVERY WIN 43-34

Mountain heritage boys won a low scoring ball game vs Avery county Wednesday night. Cougars never trailed but never took control either. Lowest scoring game all year Cougars led 20-14 at the half. Cougars slow pace only had 13 turnovers. Cougars only had 2 3's on the night one from Tim Hensley one from Kaleb Mccurry. Kaleb came off the bench and generated the spark going a perfect 2-2 from the field. Grant Buckner had 10pt's 2 assists . 

He saved his best assist at the end of the game when he ran the floor gathering the Viking defense bounce passing  the ball on the floor  to Austin Taylor who broke the rim down for an uncontested dunk.
 To break Avery's will. Taylor had 15pts 13rebounds 2 steals 3 blocks 1 assist in having an complete game. Cougars where even off the glass grabbing 12 defensive rebounds and 11 offensive rebounds. Cougars win a low scoring  game. 43-34

Mountain Heritage Lady's stay undefeated vs Mitchell 57-45

Mountain Heritage girls without star all conference player Samm Chandler looked to Destiney Elkin's to step up .Elkins Delivered with 16 Pt's 8 rebounds 3 steals 3 blocks . Girls led 11-5 after the 1st. Elkins motor run wide open smothering the Mountaineer shooters. 


North Greenville commit Brianna woody was the focus of the Mountaineers Holding her to 4 Pt's . But that attention she drew opened it up for others like Nyssa Freeman. Freeman had the best game in her career with 28pt's  4, 3 pointers . Abbey Bailley had a season high 7 rebounds . As a team the girls had 18 defensive rebounds but was obvious missing Samm  Chandlers boxing out only grabbing 8 rebounds on the offensive glass. Cougars cruise in 2nd half winning 57-45

BOYS HAVE LITTLE TROUBLE WITH STRUGGLING MITCHELL SQUAD 55-22

Mountain heritage boys in 2013 just have more talent than Mitchell this season . Mitchell returned all conference player Austin Mask for the first time this season in a limited roll .Austin Taylor welcomed back Austin Mask with a block to start the game.Then Taylor followed that up with monster dunk causing the Cougar fan section to go into a fit.

 Cougars off and running took an easy 20-6 in the first. Will Buckner led the big men with 11pts 5-7 from the field 6 rebounds . Cougars had 41 rebounds 25 defensive led by Austin Taylor who had 7 . Mitchell only scored 1 point in the 2nd period .Tim Hensley led all scorers with 13pt's as him and Lucas king both had 3 steals . Football memories remain when in the second half Jennings Greene and Jake McClellan were tangled up words and glares exchanged  Mitchell leading scorer's had six points 6pts Nate Waycaster and Sam Mckinney. Cougars shot 45% from the field 18-40 16-32 from the line 16-32 50 %. 
COUGARS WIN 55-22 

After the game MH student's returned a purple wreath that was sent to Mountain Heritage High School with a note: To New Coach Hank Newson  ,welcome to the rivalry. That did not sit well with the Mitchell faithful one Fan sending a spit bottle into the Mountain Heritage fan base. Cooler heads prevailed once the Mountain Heritage staff apologized for the situation .

Boys claw Griffins 75-33

Cougars had little trouble putting away Thomas Jefferson. Cougars shot the best from 3pt land this season going 47% from outside 8-17 . Tim Hensley had 2 finishing with 12pts 4 assist. Breaking Thomas Jefferson's back early was a beautiful pass from Avery Austin for a two handed dunk by Austin Taylor. Cougars never looked back .

 Taking a 13 pt lead in the 1st. Taylor was a prefect 3-3 from the floor, 2 blocks until going out with an injury. Avery Austin led team with 6 assists and 4 steals . Cougars had 19 assists and 13 steals as a team. Will Buckner led team with 13 rebounds . Cougar dominate glass with 31 rebounds. Cougars shoot 17-26 65% off the line to salt game away.Cougars outscore Griffins 45-16 in second half.

Lady cougars walk away from Thomas Jefferson 75-31

Lady's won a sloppy game vs Thomas Jefferson . Cougars lost star Samm Chandler early in the game with a twisted her ankle on a lose ball. Destiny Elkins picked up the slack with 15pts 9 rebounds in Samm's absence. Kaylon Johnson was hot from the floor scoring 18pts with 4 3's. Kaylon also led team with 5 steals .
Cougars cruised to an 18-2 1st quarter lead. Abbey Bailey had her best game 10pts /. starters Brianna woody and Nyssa Freeman both were in double digits . Woody had 7rebs under the basket . WOODY ALSO led with 3 ASSISTS. Lady's had 11 assists 16 steals and 28 rebounds as a team. Cougars walk in the 75-31 victory

Lady's put away WARHORSES 59-41

Lady's had little problem with the Warhorses in the 1st Quarter outscoring Owen 20-5 . Nyssa Freeman had her best game of the year with 15pts hitting 3 3's. Nyssa also put in 4 rebound 4 steals 3 assists. Cougars had 35 rebounds 19 steals as a team. 

Brianna woody looks back in last season form with 16pts 6 rebounds, 2 steals. Destiny Elkins and Sam Chandler both hit 3 shots from the field . Cougars led 48-30 after 3 maintained that advantage. winning 59-41. Biggest problems the Cougars had on the night as officiating . 6 JUMP BALLS WERE CALLED ON THE NIGHT .Worst crew yet.

Cougar Mens team outlast Warhorses 55-45

Owen jumped on the Cougars early hitting 4 of they're first 6 shots taking an early lead. MichaelPomeroy was the Warhorses leading scoring 13 Pt's. Owen Quickly cooled off. Cougar defense had a season high 8 blocks . Will Buckner led team with 3 .
 Will's double double 10pts 10rebounds helped Cougars take a 23-16 lead at the half.  Owen shot miserably in the 2nd quarter only scoring 5pts. Cougars Austin Taylor 11pts 8 rebounds was the leading scorer in the paint. Owen made a run to start the 3rd to get the lead down to 2 but leading scorer Tim Hensley Came up with a big block to kill Any warhorse momentum .


Tim had 17pts  rebound 2 blocks. Cougars had 7 steals  12 assist was a team .Grant Buckner had 4 steals and 7 assists . As a team cougars go 17-43 from the floor but the Cougars salted the game away on the line. Hitting 12-16 on foul line 75%.

Girls pluck blackhawks 71-55

Girls keep rolling jumped out on black hawks early as Brianna woody was unstoppable for the Cougars with 29pts 11 rebounds and 2 steals .

Cougars was out to an 9 point led in the 1st and it was never close after that. Cougars had 5 blocks as a team Sam chandler had 3 . She also had 14pts inside and 8 rebounds 4 assist. Destiny Elkins was the only other Cougar in double digits with 10. Cougars Had 30 rebounds as a team and 12 steals.

Boys fall to BlackHawks 53-46

2012 Men's team just can not find they're groove losing to a team they had already beaten this year. Reason? Shooting !Cougars shot 13% from 3 going for 4-31 basically reason the cougars lost. 

Cougars still took the lead late in the 3rd led by Austin Taylor going 6-9 from the floor 6 rebounds with his 6 monster blocks kept the cougars close through out. Will Buckner led team 7 rebounds. But Cougars had a untimely technical foul that killed a comeback in the 4th over arguing a call. Which the same insist happened against North Buncombe twice with no technical?  After the game one official got into a screaming match with some fans. Very unprofessional. Cougars shot 19-66 from the floor. Lucas King had 3 steals.
