3A Powerhouse Erwin came back to Burnsville being the last team to beat the Cougars at "THE PIT" since 2009. Erwin like Heritage are very young. THE COUGARS only have one starter returning on the line PRICES CREEK'S Cody Mcfarland #50. Cougars where forced to punt on their first possession going 3 and out. Erwin was able to recieve the ball around the 50. But it didn't take long for the WARRIORS to strike as Denzel Mcknight went 50 yards to the house making the score 7-0. The COUGARS battled around midfield with QB SAM HOWELL who went (6-14 passing for 52 yards and one Int )through to a wide open BRANDON BUCHANAN for 14 yards. But the Drive stalling with a 3rd and short sack by ERWIN. HERITAGES bend but don't break style of Defense worked against ERWIN'S, AUSTIN BROWN . AUSTIN went 13-18 for a buck 72 with six yards rushing on six carries. ERWIN was forced to punt the next drive . COUGARS JACKSON YOUNG got the COUGARS off the goal line with the biggest gain of the night for the cougars to the 36 yard line. JACKSON lead all rushers for the COUGARS with 49 yards on 8 carries. With cougars driving the COUGARS got the ball to the 50 went Eli (HE LIED) BUCKNER got the ball to midfield on a on a nice pass from HOWELL. But the ball was placed on the 47. Which dampened the rest of the drive. But ERWIN'S TANNER BROOKSHIRE muffed the punt and HERITAGES LUCAS KING recovered the ball in the end zone. But the officials saw it different putting the ball on on the 4 yard line. AUSTIN RICE scored the only points for Heritage making the score 7 all on the next play. AUSTIN RICE was keyed on from the start of the ball game only having 16 yards on 11 carries. Both teams go into half at 7-7. ERWIN goes 3 and out on there first drive of the half. COUGARS SAM HOWELL (rushed for 21yards on 12 carries) and LOUIS ROMERO, willed the Cougars to the ERWIN 48 where the drive stalled . ERWIN'S AUSTIN BROWN fumbled and HERITAGES LUCAS KING recovered, in good field position but they where forced to punt. ERWIN'S JOHN ALLEN had a nice series with part of his 19 rushing yards .But the drive was once again stuffed by a smaller defense by the COUGARS. The last COUGAR scoring treat came on a halfback pass from ELI BUCKNER to IAN BOONE who dropped a sure go ahead touchdown being 10-15 yards behind the defense. After that the WARRIORS woke up with AUSTIN BROWN screens and play action capping off a touchdown drive with JOHN ALLEN who finished 43 yards receiving and one TD. Putting the WARRIORS up 14-7 7mins to go. COUGAR line could not give SAM HOWELL anytime to throw with 4 sacks and 6 batted balls. AUSTIN RICE and the COUGAR back field had the same problem ,with a crowd of WARRIORS in the back field every play. On 4th down with under 4 Min's the COUGARS shanked a punt at the 30 that put the game out of reach. Letting ERWIN have a short field getting a short field goal with under 2 minutes. COUGARS lose by that score 17-7.
