EAST RUTHERFORD ENDS MOUNTAIN HERITAGES
SEASON
49-70
Mountain Heritage had the most successful season ever in men's basketball. Getting to the final 4 teams in the state . The cougars had to go against the 26-1 East Rutherford Cavaliers. To advance to the championship game in chapel hill next Saturday night. The Cavaliers were lead by Marshall recruit Highlight Reel Devince Boykins. Boykins started out early with a huge dunk to rattle the Cougars. The Cougars fought back with a big three by Alex Biggerstaff. The 6'6 Junior Biggerstaff had 2 threes on the night finishing with 11 Pt's and 3 rebounds 1 steal. John Cannon who had defenders hanging off of him all night and seemed to never get his feet set all night. Cannon had a season low 11 Pt's with 11 rebounds 2 blocks. While Zack Price for the cavs killed the cougars all night hitting 3 after 3 Price finished with 24pts. The cavs lead at the end of the first 24-13. When the Cougars Tyson Tomberlin who missed the last game because of injury hit a 3 to pull the cougars a closer Tomberlin finished with 6 points 5 rebounds and 1 steal. Trenton (TB) Burleson had 2 threes 2 rebounds 2 assist and 2 big charges to get the cougars with in 6pts. But when the Cougars started making shots and stopping one Cavaliers shooter. It was like a leaky bucket ! You fix one hole and another starts The East guards had a field day shooting threes. Taking a 36-26 lead into the half. The second half started fast and the cougars had no answer. Bokins dunks had more power 4 in all Denvice finished with 17 Pt's and would have had a 5th dunk if not for Spencer "the priest" Bishop who stood tall and giving a hard foul. Bishop had 2 Pt's. Cougars were down 52 -38 end of the third Drew Letterman hit a three with his only bucket also having 4 assist with one block. Later in the period a East guard Raheem Hampton went up for a break away and Trenton Burleson had position and fouled Raheem Hampton. The East guard hit the floor stayed down for several scary Min's. Before returning to the game he was also a killer for the Cav's with 14pts. Both teams received 4 tech fouls on one position. For talking and a little pushing. By that time the Cougars were really wore out. Only going 8-25 from the field 32 percent and 6-26 from three only 25% . But the cougars had to give up anything inside to try to make up ground late throwing up three after three. Cougars did shoot 71 percent from the line 15-21 .But when we where hitting foul shots East was hitting threes. The Cav's out scored the Cougars 18-11 in the fourth. The Cougars had 29 rebounds as team . The speed of the Cavalier defenders to stop easy passes and to complete easy passes was the story of the game. COUGARS FALL 70-49 .
Mountain Heritage's trip to the final 4 was their best showing ever! The cougars lose 6'10 John "boom boom " Cannon ,Matthew Kardulis, Daulton Woody, Zander Silvers, Tyson Tomberlin, Trenton Burleson and Dillon Vess to graduation.
Coach Barry Johnson “We've had a great run, and it's a real tribute to our seniors"!
