Cougar GIRLS have no trouble with Thomas Jefferson Griffins 51-16


Cougars still with out star Summer Ray for the second game in a row didn't need a lot of help vs the Griffins . Maria Kardulis had 10pts lead team with 2 3's also having 5 rebounds 2 steals 1 assist.  Samm Chandler lead all in 3 areas 16 Pt's 9 rebounds 4 steals also having a block. Brianna Woody's 7 Pt's 4 rebounds 3 rebounds and a block had the Cougars up almost 30 at the half. Kaylon Johnson & Nyssa Freeman 5 assist each. Kaylon 5 Pt's 1 rebound 2 steals 1 block. Nyssa 4 rebounds  2 steals added to TJ'S grief. Destiny Elkins lead the Bench with 9 Pt's ! She also has 5 rebounds 3 steals 1 block. Cougars had 21 steals on the night. Every  player had at least one steal in win Abby Renfro got 2 then Lacey Elkins got her steal. Untested Cougars won 51-16 and ready for they're rematch with Mitchell. If Cougar win out they will hang another conference title on the wall.

Cougars and Griffins both came into the match up tied for 2nd with Mitchell in the Western Highlands Conference. Cougars needed a win to go into Ledger Tuesday night  at least tied with the mountaineers. The last time the Griffins and Cougars played the Cougars only had the Lead 7 Min's but won. This Game was Much different. Cougars flew around the ball . Leading scorer for the cougars Spencer "SPINNIE B" Bishop. THE PRIEST hit 5 three pointers finishing with 18pts 1 rebound 3 steals 2 assist. Alex Biggerstaff didn't have his best shooting night but would be a career night for many. Alex had 15 Pt's 6 rebounds 2 steals and shared the love with 6 assist to lead the team.  After being down the 3 after one the Cougars then out scored TJ 30-11 in the 2nd . Main reason? Because Lucas king (2pts 3 rebounds 1 steal 2 assist) and  Tim Hensley(5pts 2 rebounds 1 steal 1 assist) stuck to the WHC pt leader Travis Waldroup like glue. Waldroup avg is around 33 Pt's a game . Both game's against King and Hensley he has scored 21. Austin Taylor had 12pts 7 rebounds and 3 blocks that lead every one as the cougars to a 39-23 lead at the half.


The second half  Griffins could not close the gap. Cougars were 23-47 from the floor in the game and 15-23 from the line . Eli Buckner had 7pts and 7 rebounds 2 steals and 3 assist seen limited playing time in the second half.Cougar slowly pulled away keeping the lead around 15. 4th period was just to run out the clock.  Brandon Brown had 2 Pt's 1 rebounds 1 1 steal. Brain Krause scored his bucket in the 4th giving him 2. Drew Hoilman had 2 rebounds and Drew brown had has 3 .Zack Brown lead everyone off the bench with 5 rebounds. Cougars win by 20. 69-49

Mountain heritage girls escape @ owen. 47-38




Lady cougars went to Owen tied for first in the Western Highlands Conference with Avery. Lady Cougars without starter Summer Ray who was injured vs Polk. Girls took time to adjust going up 13-11 with Kaylon Johnson hitting some big shots finishing with 7 Pt's.  Maria Kardulis and Brianna woody had 8 Pt's in  but the cougars trailed 23-21 at the half. Nyssa Freeman lead all lady Cougars with 11 Pt's along with Destiny Elkins 3 Pt's kept pace with the Lady warhorses by the end of the 3rd. Even though Owens Kristen Wilson lead everyone with 12 pts the 4th period was all Cougars behind Samm Chandlers 10pts lady cougars went on a 8-0 run in the last 3 Min's winning 47-38. boys win @ Owen 68-52



Varsity men's team came off a heartbreaking loss to Polk in their last game out. But traveled  to Owen to stay on pace with Mitchell and Thomas Jefferson for 2nd in the Western Highlands. This was a sloppy game with Cougars having close to 30 turnovers, But had a 18-9 lead at the end of the first thanks to a good game from Drew Hoilman who had 8pts and Eli Buckner's 12pts . Spencer Bishop's 13pts and Tim Hensley's 10 Pt's was one of his best outputs in the last few games. Owens Michael Pomeroy had 14pts . But the warhorses still trailed 32-18 at the half. Alex Biggerstaff lead all scorers again with 20pts. Owen outscored Heritage e by one in the 3rd. Austin Taylor had an off game with 3pts .Brandon Brown seen limited playing time getting 2 Pt's. Cougars win by 16pt's Cougars in a 3 way tie for 2nd now in whc.

Varsity Girls beat polk 55-37


Polk gave the Lady Cougars a game early.
  But  Nyssa Freeman hit 3  3 pointers  also having 2rebounds 2 blocks and 4 assist. to help the Cougars to take the lead early in a low percentage game. Brianna Woody lead all scorers with 18pts 2steals 2 rebounds. Cougars lead 15-19 at the half.  Cougars readjusted at the half and blowed out Polk in the 3rd . Maria Kardulis had 6pts 2 steals 4 assist. Samm Chandler's 9pts 2 rebounds 1 block and Summer Rays 6pts 2 rebounds 2 steals . Helped the cougars pull out to a 39-27 lead by the 3rd period.  Destiny Elkins had 4pts 4 steals with Kaylon johnsons 4 Pt's 2 steals helped the cougars pull away. Abby Bailey had 5 rebounds. Cougars win 55-37

varsity boys fall in ot to polk 84-79

Mountain Heritage had defeated Polk early in the season. Cougars second in the conference behind undefeated Hendersonville. Both teams came out running Eli Buckner was on fire the first half scoring 15pts 4rebounds 3 steals 4 assists. Spencer Bishop had his highest out put of the season scoring 17pts plus the only 3 the cougars hit. Polk lead 33-30 at the half. Cougars D stiffened in 3rd Austin Taylor had 7 blocks to lead the game also 10pts 8 rebounds. Lucas King and Tim Hensley both had 5pts. Cougars took the lead by the end of the 3. 48-44. Cougars Protected the lead with Drew Hoilman drawing a charge in the 4th. Hoilman had 2pts . Cougars lead by 2 with 5 seconds remaining but polk scored as time ran out. 70 all. Cougar went cold in OT getting second half shots but could not get them to fall. Polk being up by 5 in OT Alex Biggerstaff hit a 3 and made contact with the Polk defender . But the ref seen it different calling it a 2 with no foul Biggstaff finished 22pts (being perfect off the line) 10 rebounds 1 assist.

varsity boys fall to hendersonville

Mountain HERITAGE found them self second in the WHC as they traveled to hendersonville. Bearcats undefeated, playing the best ball in conference.
Cougars Alex Biggerstaff lead all scorers at 27pts 5rebounds  Cougars down only 2 start of the 2nd period . Eli Buckner had a great game with 18 pts 8 rebounds tied the game up at 30 all on a nice jump shot. Cougars Spencer Bishop had 10pts 3assist to help give the cougars the lead at 32-36 at the half. In the third Hendersonville star Shawn Rodgers drew A TECH FOUL  for language? With him on the bench Lucas King had 6 Pt's 3 rebounds 1 steal 2 assist 1 block and one charge to give Mountain Heritage a 5 pt lead.

Tim  Hensley's 4 Pt's 3 rebounds helped but the cougars fell behind 49-47 at the end of 3.
The 4th period was all Hendersonville .Bearcats press really wore out the Cougars Austin Taylor only had 2pts 8 rebounds but had 5 key blocks. Hendersonville blowed the game open the last 4 Min's winning

Mountain Heritage girls needed a win to stay on pace with Avery for First place in WHC.
Maria Kardulis had her best game of the 2012 season with  17pts (3 3s) 2 rebounds one  forced charge . Sam Chandler was the leading scorer again with 18pts 5 rebounds. Cougars lead was six after one. Bearcat were much improved this season over last. But Cougar's just too strong Brianna Woody 12pts 8 rebounds 3 steal and 2 blocks. Cougars lead at half 39-22. Summer Ray has a strong night with 5 Pt's 5 rebounds 4 assist . Nyssa freeman  hit one 3 but had 6 assist to lead team. with big lead Cougars installed Abby Bailey and Destiny Ekins . Elkins had 8 Pt's 8 rebounds 2 steals while Abby had 7 Pt's 4 rebounds . Cougars Gabbi Neil scored the last Pt's of the game. Cougars cruise 74-45.

MH VARSITY GIRLS HOLDOFF MADISON 48-34


Before the girls game ended the girls found out that the conference leading Avery Vikings had lost to Mitchell so a win vs Madison would put them in a tie with the Vikings for the whc lead. Cougars shot poor but well enough to take a 28-19 halftime leader Maria Kardulis hit 2 first half 3's finishing with 10 Pt's 2 rebounds a steal and assist. Samm Chandler wasn't her dominating self but still had 11 pts 5 rebounds  5 steals an a assist.

 Brianna Woody started cold but by the end of night had 10pts 5 rebounds a steal and 4 monster blocks every time Madison went on a run. Summer Ray hit a 3 getting 4 Pt's 3 rebounds 4 steals. Kaylon Johnson hit a 3  ending up with 6 Pt's 2 assists. Nyssa Freeman hit the last 3 pointer giving her 6 Pt's also 4 rebounds a steal 2 assist. Destiny Elkins finished the scoring with 2pts 2 rebound 1 assist.Girls win by 14pts. Now tied for conference lead with AVERY!


56-36 VARSITY MEN BLOW OUT MADISON


Cougars riding high on a 3 game winning streak went to Madison to try to stay 1 game behind Hendersonville in the WHC. Cougars started a little slow but Alex biggerstaff lead all scorers again with 17 Pt's with 6 rebounds and a block. Eli Buckner came home to Madison county and for a present dropped 13pts 3 rebounds 6 steals 3 assists. Madison only trailed 10-9 after 1st. Austin Taylor didn't have his best night but still had 6 Pt's 9rebounds 4 blocks . BIG PLAYER OF THE NIGHT TIM "DEER HUNTER" HENSLEY ! Hensley shot 100 % 3-3 from floor 8 Pt's 6 rebounds 1steal 1 assist.  Cougars lead 25-16 at the half. Cougars pounded the boards getting 32 rebounds and 12 steals. Drew hoilman 'the kid' was also perfect from the floor and with 2 rebounds. Lucas king failed a dunk in the 4th but his 2 rebounds with Buchanan's two steals and rebound. frustrated THE Madison offense. Dakota Wilson and Brain Krause also scored for cougars. The easy scoring and rebounding took a toll on the Patriots causing them to pickup cheap technical fouls on the cougars in the 4th. Madison's guard was finally ejected. Cougars cruise 56-36.

GIRLS THUMP LADY TJ GRIFFINS 64-27




Lady Cougars coming off a hard loss to rival Avery county for the WHC lead. Cougars Looked to rebound  vs  the lonely Griffins. .
Mountain Heritage started at a fast  pace going 4-of-5 from behind the 3-point line in the first.
The Griffens tried to compete but fail  behind, 19-9, after the first  period
The Lady Cougars held TJ to a single basket in the second  period, while Kardulis, Johnson and Ray continued to knock down the outside shots.  cougars 39-13 lead at the half.
cougars lead 52-18 going into the 4th. Tj scored  nine points in the  4th.
Girls win 64-27.

Heritage @ Thomas Jefferson 63-53 Varsity WIN!





COUGARS WENT TO THOMAS JEFFERSON LOOKING TO CONTINUE A THEY'RE WINNING STREAK OVER THE GRIFFINS.  ALEX BIGGERSTAFF LEAD ALL MH SCORERS WITH 21 PT'S. BUT THOMAS JEFFERSON Stretched they're lead slowly threw the first half. leading 28-24 at the half. Both Eli Buckner and Austin "BOB" Taylor had 10 PT'S as the cougars  outscored TJ 19- 13 in the 3rd period. Thomas Jefferson had no answer for the Cougars inside game. Waldroup-Rodriguez the was going to be a problem for the cougars.The job of shutting down the Western Highlands Conference leader  who had been averaging over 30 Pt's a game fell to Luca King and Tim Hensley.Hensley and King shadowed RODRIGUEZ the whole night 0nly allowing him to hit 5 baskets. Hensley finished with 4 Pt's and king with 3pt's. Spencer Bishop (THE PRIEST) drove to the basket at will finishing with 8pts. Drew Holiman "the kid " inside game finished out the cougars scoring with 7 Pt's. With Rodriguez shut down in the second the Cougars out scored the Griffins 20-12 in the 4th period.Cougars winning streak is now at 3 games. With Madison Friday night. AVERY BEATS MOUNTAIN HERITAGE GIRLS 74-68 TAKE FIRST PLACE IN WHC

Game Tuesday was for the drivers seat in WHC.
both TEAMS UNDEFEATED IN CONFERENCE.
COUGARS CAME OUT HOT WITH MARIA KARDULIS HITTING TWO 3'S . Kaylon Johnson had 8 Pt's with a 3. Summer Ray hit a 3 also having 11 Pt's 4 assists 3 steals.
Nyssa Freeman gave the cougars the lead at 18-19 with 2 of her 10pts.
Brianna woody had 14 Pt's 10 rebound 3 steals 1 block  keep the girls close . But the Vikings shot the lights out in the second half. aNSWERING COUGARS EVERYTIME.
Samm chandler lead all Cougars with 15pts 9 rebounds 6 steals 4 assist.
Abby Bailey hit 2 shots finishing with 4 Pt's 3 rebounds1 steal. Destiny Elkins finished with 2pts.
But down by 1 cougars unable to get successful inbounds.
Avery wins 74-68 finishing off cougars on foul line.

AVERY GOT BEHIND EARLY IN THIS GAME AS  AUSTIN TAYLOR HIT HIS FIRST 8 SHOTS . AVERY HAD NO ANSWER FOR THE STRONG MOUNTAIN HERITAGE INSIDE GAME! Cougars up 39-28 at the half!
COUGARS Ran away from the Vikings in the second. 3 COUGARS WHERE IN DOUBLE DIGITS IN 77-51 WIN.

COUGAR GIRLS take down Mitchell 67-51



Cougars Kaylon Johnson had an off Carolina day tournament. But her Performance Friday night left no questions about
her place in the team. Johnson was 3-3 from 3 finishing with 15pts 1 rebound  1 charge.  Maria Kardulis  had 6 Pt's 5 rebounds 6 steals a block 4 assist having her best game of season Helping cougars to a 8-14 first quarter lead. For the most part this was a very sloppy game with 50 combined turnovers . This game had had some tense moments as well when a Mitchell's guard threw here shoulder into Maria Kardulis after a foul.  Referee sent a strong waring after that. Cougars shot poor from field 16-44 and 5-14 from 3. But what was unreal 20-23 from the line. As a team Cougars had 34 rebounds with Samm chandler having 10 rebounds . Nyssa Freeman had 5 rebounds with one 3  1 steal 3 assist. Cougars took a 30-19 at the half . Brianna woody protected the lead with her 2 blocks 4 rebounds  girls had 5 blocks as a team. Summer ray was very active leading team with 5 assist also having 4 rebounds 1 steal. Mitchell went on a 6-0 run in 3rd but really to much cougars, players like  ABBY bailey's 3 rebounds 1 steal and 1 assist Just refuse to lose. Cougars never trailed winning 67-51. Out scoring Mitchell in every period.Cougars D recorded 12 steals.

Mitchell at Moutain heritage boys hold on. win 65-63

Been a rough season for the defending champs as the best basketball rivalry in the mountains took center stage Friday both teams came out running .
 But the cougars Eli Buckner came back since 3rd game of the season from an ankle injury. He proved to be a huge difference.

 Buckner had 16 Pt's in the first half (finishing with 17). Hitting 2 3's and was killing Mitchell under the basket slashing to the basket. Buckner had 6 rebounds 2 steals 4 assist. Spinnie B came out Sharpe going 2-4 from 3 with 3 rebounds a steal 6 assist helping the cougars to a 10 pt lead in second . Cougars Tim Hensley had 6 Pt's rebounds 3 steals 3 assist also fighting for every loose ball in his direction. Game was tense with scrappy play ,just before half a Mitchell player had the ball stolen by Austin bob Taylor  . Taylor went after the steal when Mitchell's center shoved Taylor to the floor. Then had 2 more technicals , was thrown out of the game . Cougars made they're most of the 6 free shots sinking all of them. Cougars lead 39-32 . The 3rd was all Mountain Heritage. Out scoring the Mountaineer's 14-9. Austin Taylor was 4-7  8pt's from the field with 5 rebounds and 5 monster blocks. 
 Carrying a 13 pt lead in the 3rd . But Mitchell rallied when  the Cougars went cold from the field in the 4th, Mitchell went on a 8-o run late and out scoring the Cougars 22-12 in the 4th. Mitchell was forced to foul late when the full court press failed. Alex biggerstaff went 8-10 from line. 4-9 from field with two 3's leading all scorers with 18 Pt's 4 rebounds a steal 2 assist putting the game away when the Mountaineer's could not answer late. Cougars shot 46% from field hitting 6-13 from 3 pointers 17 rebounds  17 assists. Cougars are now 3-1 in conference 2nd to only Hendersonville.
