Mountain Heritage at Avery 39-49 loss




Cougars and Vikings both entered the game at 4-4 and  both trying to finish in 4th place in the conference . Cougars started off fast (check videos) on they're first drive Cougars ran down the Vikings Defense on a 7 min. Drive finished off by QB Sam Howell . Cougars went up 6-0 on the young Viking D. First drive for Avery, Alex Villanueva passed the vikings inside the 5 and ran a bootleg on 4th down and scored 7-6 Avery .Cougars took the ball again and drove right back down the field, Howell ran it in from 25 yards. Cougars up 13-7. Avery came right back' scoring on Tennessee transfer Luke Childress . Avery up 14-13. Cougars Jackson young and Sam Howell both where shook up in the 2nd . Howell returned after on play.Jackson did not after a bad concussion. Jackson was having a great night rushing only 2 times for 47 yards. Villanueva passed the vikings to the Cougars 30. Then Luke Childress ran in from 30. Avery up 21-13. Cougars Drew Hoilman Returned the kick off to the 44 yard line. But was hit on the sideline and was lost with a possible broken foot. Cougars came down the field running with Howell and Rice then the Cougars scored on a pass play from 20 plus yards to Eli Buckner on a layout grab in the back of the End zone. Eli was shaken up on the play. Howell ran in on the 2pt Conversion. 21 all. On the kick off the Cougars kicked the ball inside the Viking 10 yard line.But the Viking returner thinking the ball would  bounce out of bounds didn't pick up the ball. Cougars Lucas King hustled down the field and recovered the kickoff before the half! Cougars Austin Rice scored on 3rd down .Going up 27-21 .Avery had under a Min. before the half. Villanueva threw an int to Eli Buckner who came down hard on his shoulder and did not return. Buckner had 76 total yards and 1 TD. Halftime. 2nd half Vikings start running on all cylinders Avery's QB ran  for 210 yards rushed a 70 yard touchdown . Vikings up 28-27. Cougars got the ball back drove down the field scored with Austin Rice from the goal line.28-33 Cougars. Rice had 2 TD'S 108 yards rushing Austin carried the ball 25 times in the game. Heritage then tried an onside kick that was recovered buy Avery.Villanueva who had 216yards passing picked the cougars apart with out Buckner and Jackson and Young. It was easy pickings.Alex hooked again with Dustin Clark from 20 yards out! Avery up 35-33. Vikings . Cougars penalty's killed everything they tried to do. Cougars compiled over 133 yards in fouls Avery had 71 on 9 penalty's .But the punt on the next possession of the Cougars . Alex wasted no time to score when he hooked up with basketball star on a go route 50 yards for the Score. 42-27 Vikings . Cougars couldn't move the ball Vikings took the ball back down the field Alex scored from 5 yards out. Avery has the rout on 49-33 in the fourth. QB Sam Howell aka "the warrior " brought Heritage back down the field on a time consuming drive scoring on 2nd down to Jr Lucas King on a 16 yard pass play.Howell finished with 205 total yards and 2 TD'S Cougars finished off the scoring on that play Final 49-39 Avery! Cougars had 460 total yards ,Vikings had 416 yards.
