POLK AT HERITAGE 26-14 LOSS



Cougars entered Fridays game in an unfamiliar spot. A 2-2 record being a huge underdog to the 1st place in the conference Polk county wolverines. Cougars  came out strong behind QB Sam Howell and Rb Austin Rice. Cougars pounded they re way down inside the 10 when Howell connected with Eli Buckner in the Corner of the end zone. Eli's and Howells first passing td of the season. Austin Rice punched in the 2 point conversion putting the cougars up 8-0 on the wolverines. On Polk's first drive the cougars held the wolverines 3 and out .But a block in the back call on Mtn Heritage's defense prolonged the drive (check video tomorrow), inside Polk's 20 yard line. Polk counties QB Alec Philpott wasted little time answering Mountain Heritage connecting with Cary Littlejohn 74 pass TD. Little Jon had 2 catches for 83 yards Philpott walked in the end zone for the 2 point conversion to tie the game 8 all. It was a defensive ball game the rest of the half. The Heritage D stepped up big for the cougars holding the wolverines out the endzone at the end of the half keeping the game 8 all in the half. The second half was a different ball game, as Polk opened up the playbook as Polk's  Joel Booker went outside and scored on a 59 run off down the Polk county sidelines to outrun everyone one the Cougars Defense. Polk goes up 14-8. Heritage had big Penalties in the 2nd half that killed cougar drives . Cougars had 98 yards in  penalties  with 2 personals (both blocking in the back on defense)? Polk counties Cary Little Jon was a beast all night until going out with a turned ankle. Little John rushed for 107 yards  on 15 carries. Scored the following drive on a 50 yard touchdown . Putting Polk up 20-8. Mountain Heritages offensive line was breaking down , Jackson young ran strong all night netting 39 yards on 5 carries But the cougars fumbled the ball deep on they're side of the field. Giving Philpott and the wolverines a short field. Philpott had 102 yards passing on the night 4/10 and a 7 yard touchdown run to put Polk up 26-8. Cougars unable to move the ball was forced to punt on the 30 yard line on there next series. But punter/QB Sam Howell fumbled the snap and run the ball to the 32 yard line of polk(Sam had 75 yards on 8 carries and 1-4 passing for 4 yards). Austin rice punched it in on the next play getting the score 26-14 that capped off all scoring(Rice had 79 yards rushing on 12 carries). The cougars did get the ball back deep inside they re own terrority after one of 3 goal line standing on the night. But backup was "sunshine" Justin Hoilman was unable to move the offense throwing and Int at the 16 yard line. Polk was unable to get in after leaving they're starters in. Polk had 389 total yards on the night compared to Heritage's 206. But the penalties is the story cougars had almost a 10 for 100 yards while Polk only had 5 for 35 yards.
