5TH ROUND GREENSBORO FINAL 4 East Rutherford VS Mountain Heritage

Mountain Heritage had the most successful season ever in men's basketball. Getting to the final 4 teams in the state . The cougars had to go against the 26-1 East Rutherford Cavaliers. To advance to the championship game in chapel hill next Saturday night. The Cavaliers were lead by Marshall recruit Highlight Reel Devince Boykins. Boykins started out early with a huge dunk to rattle the Cougars. The Cougars fought back with a big three by Alex Biggerstaff. The 6'6 Junior Biggerstaff had 2 threes on the night finishing with 11 Pt's and 3 rebounds 1 steal. John Cannon who had defenders hanging off of him all night and seemed to never get his feet set all night. Cannon had a season low 11 Pt's with 11 rebounds 2 blocks. While  Zack Price for the cavs killed the cougars all night hitting 3 after 3 Price finished with 24pts. The cavs lead at the end of the first 24-13. When the Cougars Tyson Tomberlin who missed the last game because of injury hit a 3 to pull the cougars a closer Tomberlin finished with 6 points 5 rebounds and 1 steal.  Trenton (TB) Burleson had 2 threes 2 rebounds 2 assist and 2 big charges to get the cougars with in 6pts. But when the Cougars started making shots and  stopping one Cavaliers shooter.It was like a leaky bucket ! You fix one hole and another starts The East guards had a field day shooting threes. Taking a 36-26 lead into the half. The second half started fast and the cougars had no answer. Bokins dunks had more power 4 in all Denvice finished with 17 Pt's and would have had a 5th dunk if not for Spencer "the priest" Bishop who stood tall and giving a hard foul. Bishop had 2 Pt's. Cougars were down 52 -38 end of the third Drew Letterman hit a three with his only bucket also having 4 assist with one block. Later in the period a East guard Raheem Hampton went up for a break away and Trenton Burleson had position and fouled  Raheem Hampton. The East guard hit the floor stayed down for several scary Min's. Before returning to the game he was also a killer for the Cav's with 14pts. Both teams received 4 tech fouls on one position. For talking and a little pushing. By that time the Cougars were really wore out. Only going 8-25 from the field 32 percent and 6-26 from three only 25% . But the cougars had to give up anything inside to try to make up ground late throwing up three after three. Cougars did shoot 71 percent from the line 15-21 .But when we where hitting foul shots East was hitting threes. The Cav's out scored the Cougars 18-11 in the fourth. The Cougars  had 29 rebounds as team . The speed of the Cavalier defenders to stop easy passes and to complete easy passes was the story of the game. COUGARS FALL 70-49 .
Mountain Heritage's trip to the final 4 was their best showing ever! The cougars lose 6'10 John "boom boom " Cannon ,Matthew Kardulis, Daulton Woody, Zander Silvers, Tyson Tomberlin, Trenton Burleson and Dillon Vess to graduation.

4th round playoffs Greensboro Heritage vs Berry Academy




COUGARS WIN 55-53 OVER BERRY!

Actually  the full name was Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology we just called it PO-BAT for short. Berry Academy had a 27-2  record on the year. Berry came  out took a 14-7 first period lead behind Osandai Vaughn who had 18 Pt's and started out quick for the cardinals .The cougars started out slow trying to adjust with  Foward Tyson Tomberlin being out. Who was hurt twisted his ankle in practice earlier in  week.  Berry took advantage with out Tomberlin with Dajuan Graf who is a D-1 school prospect with 17 Pt's . But the cougars fought back in the 2nd with Tomberlins replacement Eli Buckner who started getting comfortable in his roll getting key rebounds early finishing with 6pts 3 rebounds. The other player stepping up nice was Xander Silvers who hit a big 3 to pull the cougars within 4 Silvers finished 5pts 2 boards and some great defense inside. Cougars outscored the cardinals by 2 Pt's by the end of the second period getting the score 19-24 at the half. The 3 period belonged to the  cougars. Out scoring the Berry Academy 19-8  in the period Because John "Boom Boom" Cannon took over . Cannon seemed to own the paint inside turning away any inside game the Cardinals may have had. Cannon finished with 21 Pt's 22 rebounds 8 blocks. Berry was afraid to come inside on the Big 6'10 senior. Berry hit one basket in the 3rd frame.  Keeping the Cardinals in it was the ability to hit they're  shots on the line Berry had 16 points off the line Cougars only had 7pts but only missed 3 attempts. The fourth was a bit more shaky for the cougars. Cougar went cold for a spell and the Cardinals took advantage with Quincy Ekechukwu who finished with 6pts 4 rebounds .  Cougars Alex Biggerstaff had key buckets to fall in the second finishing with 8 points 3 assist .The cardinals came all the way back and took the lead 52-49 under 2 minutes. Tenton Burleson's Defense was big all night drawing another charge in giving him 5 on the night. Trenton also had 3 three pointers and 4 assist one going to Matt Kardulis who hit a 3 earlier in the ball game. Matt finished with 6 Pt's a steal,an assist and 2 charges. Senior Drew Letterman only hit one shot all night but it was a big one a three pointer at the top of the key after a cougar defensive stand. Kardulis was huge late in the ball game getting sent to the line late going 3-4 from the line putting the cougars back up 55-53 with under 7 seconds left . Berry Academy took the ball inside and  Cannon finish off the Cardinals with his last block of the night. Cougars win the game 55-53. Cougars out rebounded  the Cardinals 34-25. Cougars hit 6 threes Cardinals hit 3. The big stat was the 7 forced charges the cougars drew as a team that shut down they re drives to the basket. The cougars now play  East Rutherford who is 25-1 on the year. Winner will go one to Chapel Hill for the state championship!
