Boy's finish as runner up in Western Highlands Tournament

Mountain Heritage boys first game had to come from behind to beat rival Mitchell  in the
 1st round

Round #2 vs Owen. Cougars were up double digits in 3rd, but survived on a Will Buckner Tip in as time expired.
81-79

Championship game #2 Cougars stayed basket for basket with #1 Hendersonville .Tim Hensley hit a layup to tie the game up with 1.7 seconds in the game.  But a deep inbounds throw to Shawn Rodgers then he sank a turn around jump shot to Break the Cougars Heart.

 Cougars are 0-7 in they're most recent meetings with the Bearcats.

Boys win Blood Bath vs Madison 63-52

Cougars came out flat vs Avery county. But fast vs Madison going up 20-8 in the first period. Madison had no answer for Jr Will Buckner who had 17pts the Cougars took a 36-24 lead at halftime.  



Madison played very physical in the game filled with fouls and pushing and shoving.  In the 3rd Madison's Sam Cauthren got hot scoring 21pts cutting the lead to 5 as he hit 5 3's. But in the end Grant Buckner's 13 and combined with Tim Hensley's 10 was to much. Cougars outscore Madison by 4 in the final quarter. Winning 63-52

Girls Bounce back vs Madison win 70-59

After a disappointing performance vs Avery. Cougars came back strong vs Madison. Samm Chandler played like her old self scoring 26 points. Cougars never let the Patriots take the lead. Destiney Elkins and Nyssa Freeman both had 16pts as the Cougars
 lead at the half.

 Patriots Patriots fall 70-59 .Despite 18 Pt's from Tess Harris  and 14pts  from Baylea Loven. After the last regular season win. The cougars learned the Avery Vikings lost @ Mitchell in double overtime. Given the Lady Cougars a share of the Western Highlands Conference Title.

Boys fall to the Vikings 51-46

Cougars led for a quarter in Newland Friday.  Cougars shot poor going 0-13 from three. Falling behind 25-19 at the half  Will Buckner had 17pt's 6-11 shooting. While the rest of the team Only getting getting 17 shots off inside hitting 10. 

Grant Buckner and Austin Taylor both had 6 Pt's from the floor Taylor did have 4 blocks. Taylor and Will Buckner had a rough night rebounding combining for 11. Cougar's had 10 offensive rebounds. Grant Buckner had 3 of the teams 7 steals. There were 2 Technical fouls on the cougars called on a rough played game. Zack brown picked up one when he threw an elbow after grabbing a offensive rebound. Tim Hensley picked up one breaking up a scuffle between Lucas king and Avery's Tre Jackson. Cougars cut the lead late to  50-46 on a runner in the lane by Grant Buckner  . But to much good ball handling for Avery late sink MH 51-46.

Girls fall at Avery 65-57

Girls looked to get payback on they're only loss on the year. Cougars came out fast going up 14-7 early Samm Chandler hit her first 3 shots. Freeman ,Elkins and Renfro also hit they're first shots . 

Helping them out to a 27-23 halftime lead. But the second half the Cougars went cold going 9 for 56 after they're fast start . Avery took the 40-32 lead in the 3rd. Cougars only scored 5 Pt's in the 3rd ! Keeping the cougars close, 22- 29 from the foul line. Cougars rebounded well 20 rebounds on both ends of the glass. Chandler led Cougars  with 20pt's 13 rebounds, 4 steals. Cougars were 3-20 from 3 . Kaylon Johnson hit all 3 buckets. Cougars fall in Newland 65-57

Boys handle Mitchell 54-30 sweep season

Boys had little problem with a struggling Mitchell squad Cougars . Cougars Will Buckner ans Austin Taylor hit 6 shots from the floor combining for 14 Pt's 13 rebounds.

 Taylor lead team with 3 blocks. Taylor had a monster dunk at the first of the game following it up block that bounced off the Mitchell shooter's head. Avery Austin had his best game in a long time hitting 3 3's finishing with 11 Pt's. Avery hit a 30 foot runner at the buzzer to end the half going up 28-13. Cougars were balanced off the glass grabbing 14 offensive and 16 defensive rebounds.  Team had 12 steals 14 assists. Cougars walk in the blow out . 54-30



Lady cougars drop Mitchell 68-25

Lady cougars finished the season sweep of Mitchell Tuesday night . Winning 68-25 on senior night . Lady Cougars dominated leading 17-6 after one. Senior Samm chandler and underclassman Destiny Elkins where a combined 14-19 inside scoring 29pts 15 rebounds.

 Lady's D accounted for 7 blocks 22 rebounds. Kaylon Johnson hit 4 threes . Nyssa Freeman hit 2 she also had 5 assists. Ladys combined had 13 assists. Cougar cruise on Senior night 68-25.

Ladies go 2-0 vs Owen and Thomas Jefferson

Cougars led the entire game  vs the WARHORSES Tuesday.  But could not shake Owen. Kaylon Johnson 12 Pt's with 3 3's. Lady's 31 rebounds Samm Chandler with 12 and Destiny Elkins with 10. Cougars combined for 10 blocks Guard Nyssa Freeman with 4 blocks. Her 4 assists out of teams 9 also led team. But her most impressive stat was going a perfect 12-12 from the line.. TEAM SHOT 22-29 FROM THE LINE. sealed they're 53-45 win. Cougars were 11-35 from the floor.
 
 
Thursday the Cougars went to cool springs vs Thomas Jefferson. Cougars took a commanding 11-5 led after one when Abbey Bailey drained a 3 at the buzzer. Cougars took a 23-8 lead at the half  When Kaylon Johnson starting raining 3's in the 2nd quarter. Cougars led 47-13 by the end of the 3rd. Cougars then cruised to they're 20-1 record and the 72-19 final.

BOYS GO 2-0 VS OWEN AND THOMAS JEFFERSON

Mountain Heritage took on Owen Tuesday and got the lead early and held it through the game. Cougars had 41 rebounds 26 defensively. Austin Taylor had 12 rebounds his 4 blocks led team also with .Cougars had 7 blocks . Cougars did a good good passing the ball around with 14 assists(Grant Buckner with 4). Tim Hensley's 6 steals  stopped the Owen offense cold. Cougars Defense accounted for 12 steals. Brandon Brown led all scorers with 14 Pt's. Cougars pulled way late on the line shooting 17-27 63%. Cougars shot 19-45 from the field . Cougars win 61-48 sweep Owen this season.
 
 
Mountain Heritage was led by big men 6- foot 8  Bob Taylor  and Will Buckner 6 foot 7 accounted for 7 dunks at Thomas Jefferson. End  first quarter ended with the Cougars leading 14-3. Both Taylor and Buckner had Monster dunks from Grant Buckner in the first half. Cougar led 23-14 end of the first half. Cougars continued pounding the ball inside to Will and Taylor. Taylor led all scorers with 26 Pt's. Will Buckner finished with 13 when he dunked on a Thomas Jefferson Defender Posterizing the Defensive player. The Thomas Jefferson coach was T-D up accusing the Will Deal of Traveling.
Cougars only walk was the 60-41 blowout.

Boys go 1-1 vs hendersonville and polk

Mountain Heritage boys looked to even the season series with hendersonville after the heart breaker 3 that beat the cougars in the last meeting. Mountain Heritage's Grant Buckner matched everything Hendersonville did early . Grant kept the cougars close as Cougars were only down 12-11 after one . But the Hendersonville press and speed killed the Cougars again. Turnovers gave the Bearcats easy baskets as the Bearcats rolled to a Double digits lead by the end of the 3rd out scoring the Cougars 36-15 in the 2nd and 3rd period.  Bearcats had 3 players in double digits. as the cruise 57-38.
 
 
Boys looked to rebound @Polk . Polk led throughout the first half and 3rd quarter behind star Alec Philpott who had 12 Pt's to lead all scorers.  But heritage battled back in the 4th cougars outscored wolverines 17-8 in the 4th 9-2 in the final minutes . Cougars pull away late 43-35 in a low scoring game.
