Lady Cougars went into to the Christmas Tournament undefeated and left that way. Taking Down two 3a teams in Asheville 55-53 (who they beat earlier in the year). Then Friday Handling Tuscola easily 77-61 in Championship game.

Boys go 1-1 at Tuscola Christmas tourney

Boys played well enough @ Tuscola to have won the Tournament but lost late vs 3a power Asheville Cougars (Who won the tournament) in game one Thursday 51-45. Friday won comfortably vs Swain Friday 55-43.

Boys handle wolverines 60-51

Cougars coming of a Hard loss to  Hendersonville looked to rebound vs polk county. Cougars had three players out because of the flu. Drew Brown , Jake McClellan and Blake elkins. Grant Buckner also was stricken the the flu. But was a late right in to play. Grant was not his self but still had 7 Pt's 90% of his coming from the line.Best shooting nights by far for cougar big men. Will Buckner 5-7 with 11 Pt's and Austin Taylor 5-8 with 10pts. Cougars where sort of dreadful on the glass with only 13 offensive rebounds.

 

 

Cougars shot 53% from field 17-32. Avery Austin led team with 14pts also leading team with 9 rebounds. Brandon Brown led team with 3 steals . Cougars picked the wolverines pockets 10 times. Anthony Carson was the only wolverine wth double digits with 17 mainly coming in the 4th quarter on polks 10-4 run to close the gap to 4 with 3 mins left But the Cougars closed on they're foul shots going 14-20 on the line 70%. Ladys have no trouble with polk county 63-30

Mountain Heritage girls had no trouble dispatching of the Polk county wolverines. Cougars took an early 19-6 led in the 1st. Brianna woody had her best game of the season with 22 Pt's going 9-11 from the field,10 rebounds 3 steals and 3 blocks.  Polk County only scored 12 Pt's total in the 2nd and 3rd period thanks to Susie Shelton's Defense .

 

Cougars

compiled  5 blocks but a season high 23 steals. Samm Chandler led cougars in steals with 6 .Kaylon Johnson was 2-3 from outside finishing 6pts led team with 4 assist cougars did a good job spreading the ball around with 11 assist. Cougars had a whooping 39 rebounds as a team. Kara overholt leading scorer for Polk with 14pts. Lady's Cruise 63-30

Lady Cougars had little problem going to 8-0 vs Hendersonville Cougars jumped out to an 19-3 lead after the 1st quarter . Samm Chandler led team again with 16pts. Cougars had an unbelievable 44 rebounds led by Destiny Elkin's who had 9 rebounds.Lady's only hit one 3 on the night When Kaylon Johnson hit one in the second.

 

Cougars went 13-19 from the line. Cougars outscored the bearcats by 13 in the third. Lady's had 16 assists also 5 blocks as a team. All Cougars scored and grabbed at least one rebound in 68-31 win.

cougars fall in ot to hendersonville 59-58

Cougars had clawed they're way back to .500 with they're win over Enka played the first conference game of the season vs hendersonville . Hendersonville Defeated the cougars all 3 meetings the year prior . Cougars played they're best game of the season the first 3 quarter's with good ball movement inside taking advantage of they're size inside . Both Will Buckner and Austin Taylor had 7pts 6rebounds each. Cougars 30 REBOUNDS helped the Mountain Heritage hold a 9 pt lead into the 4th.  Team also had 11 steals led by grant Buckner with 4. 

 

Avery Austin  had 11pts hit a big three with 4 Min's left. But Cougars had no answer for Hendersonville's Rishad Felton who totaled 37 Pt's in regulation.  Felton sawed down the lead and tied the ball game with a big 3 sending the game into overtime.  Coach Featherstone for hendersonville decided to hold the ball and take a final shot in the extra time. Hendersonville missed two chances inside giving the ball back to the cougars. Grant Buckner broke the press and was fouled and hit both foul shots cougars went up 58-56 with 9 seconds left.

 

 Felton was going to take the final shot and the cougars knew it . Senior Lucas king had a hand in his face when felton threw up an NBA rainbow that went in as time expired.Winning 59-58  Felton finished with 13 3's on the night and 40 Pt's. Cougars lose  a heart breaker to open conference play. Cougars shot 50% from the field 18-36 and 16-22 from the line in the loss.

Cougar MEN bounce back downing JETS

Cougar's came off a hard loss to Asheville last week looked to rebound against a team they had beaten already. Jets did not a have a player score Double digit's. While the boys had 3  .

 Grant Buckner had 11pt's 1 assist. Tim Hensley had 11 Pt's 5 rebounds 3 steals. Hot hand of the game, Brandon Brown 6-8 from the field scoring 13 Pt's . COUGARS D had 15 steals 4 blocks.Team shot 53 % 15-28. Cougars shoot 60% from line. Outscoring JETS  every quarter . 

Winning 46-34.

Enka came in looking to revenge they're loss a week before to the cougars. Enka's Ciara Suggs shot well scoring 16 with 3, 3 pointers but she was the  only JET with double digits. Again Samm chandler was unstoppable under the basket.  Samm had 22 Pt's 5 steals.

 Brianna Woody wasn't far behind with 13 Pt's lead team with 7 rebounds . Abbey Bailey had 4 steals . Lady cougars did not hit one 3 in game . A close game until the 4th, but the girls stepped up in the 4th outscoring the JETS 15-8. COUGARS grabbed 25 rebounds as a team. 

In a 50-41 win.

Cougars took on the A-town Cougars . With an improved result from last year but still with a loss. Cougars lead for nearly the entire first half but 23 turnovers took they re toll. MH Kaleb Mccurry was a perfect 3-3 from 3.finishing with 9. Austin Taylor 11 Pt's 2 blocks . Will Buckner Lead team with 3Blocks.  Team only shot 11-22 50% from the floor. Asheville pulled away hard in the final period. Outscoring MHHS. 35-15. WINNING 74-53
